One answer = NO

@theclonesters to expand on that, the switch is overall more powerful than the Wii u. I don't know much on hacking, so it might be possible, but it's probably best to assume it isn't.

Your first anything is important; a memory you don't want to forget. That's what makes nostalgia such a fascinating concept. That's why many people enjoy games that have aged well.

So I guess hacking the SNES to play Switch games is out of the question?

Porygon did nothing wrong.

Would it be possible to hack the Wii to play PlayStation 5 games

Would it be possible to hack a pizza to make one big burrito?

Would it be possible to hack PS5 games on an Atari?

@theclonesters To give you an actual answer: Probably not. I don't know much about hacking but what I do know is that the Switch uses many different files that the Wii U probably couldn't read. And even if it could read them, the games would need to be relatively low-powered. I'm pretty sure there's no way you could get it to run something like Odyssey without severe cutbacks. Again, I'm not an expert on the matter, but it seems highly unlikely. Not impossible, though.

Well there are plenty of switch games you can play on a wii u without even hacking it. Donkey Kong tropical freeze. NSMBU, MK8, Pikman 3…

@sixrings you mean there’s plenty of Wii u games re released on the switch

I know people complain about the Switch not having backwards compatibility, but it seems a trifle optimistic to expect the Wii U to have forward compatibility.

Ah well, it'll run Wii via backwards compatibility and N64, SNES, NES, DS and GBA games via Virtual Console out of the box. You can further hack it to get GB and Cube games running on it, as well as a bunch of other emulators. Aside from getting to play the originals of games later ported to it, Switch isn't happening though.

Don't give the YT channel Binging With Babish any ideas.

The Switch is a "Wii U.5". BOTW & Odyssey were initially designed for Wii U, with proper optimisation the Wii U could run almost any Switch game. The architecture is prohibitively different though so I can't see backwards ports becoming a thing too soon.
